During term time training commences every Thursday evening. These 'drill nights' provide the opportunity forstudents to learn the theoretical skills required for when they go to sea onboard the unit's dedicated training vessel, HMS Archer.

Drill nights can take shape in a number of formsranging from formal lectures on coastal navigation and pilotage to student's giving presentations to their peers on a subject of their choice or even practical leadership tasks.

Thursday evenings also allow the unit to embark on a range of social events - particularly our annual Trafalgar Night Dinner and Burns Night Dinner - more information on this is available in Social Events.

Ultimately drill nights provide a basis for sea weekends and our easter and summer deployments, where students consolidate what they have learned throughout the year in a practical environment.
