Aberdeen Universities Royal Naval Unit was the first of the fourteen URNUs and was formed in1967.

The aim of AURNU is to give undergraduates a taste of life at sea, opportunities to travel and the chance of character development associated with taking responsibility within a disciplined environment. By doing this, AURNU exposes a wide section of our potential future leaders of industry, senior civil servants, politicians, etc. to the role, requirements for and benefits of the Royal Navy. We also raise the profile of the Navy in both our local area and in places that the 'real' Navy never reach.

Though not specifically a recruiting organisation, several of our past members are currently pursuing careersas Royal Naval officers, and a number of our current students are at various stages of the application process.
